Free packaging data template
You'll still have to weigh your packaging. Just once.
No software knows what your mailer bag weighs. Fill it in once in our free import template, or install the app and get it with your SKUs already filled in.
The honest part
Every EPR report is built on packaging data: what each item is made of and what it weighs. That data doesn't exist anywhere until someone weighs the box or asks the supplier.
Software can't know it for certain without someone checking. The good news: you collect it once, and it stays true until your packaging changes.
The 4 data points EPR asks for
Your packaging items
Every box, mailer, bag, filler and label you ship with.
Material and weight per item
Paper, plastic, glass, metal and so on, in grams per item. From your scale or your supplier's spec sheet.
Which packaging goes with which products
So the packaging in each order can be worked out.
Where your orders shipped
Shopify already has this. You don't need to collect it.
Preview the template
This is the same import template we use in EPR Insights: one row per SKU, with its packaging, material and weight. It has sheets for product packaging, shipping packaging, electronics and single-use plastic.
| SKU | Packaging Id/Name (Optional) | Main Material Type | Packaging Use Classification (Optional) | Weight (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TEE-BLK-M | Mailer bag, medium | plastic | private use | your value |
| HOODIE-GRY-L | Shipping box, small | cardboard | private use | your value |

It's not just weight × orders × country
EPR would be simple if it were only packaging weight per order, added up per country. It isn't. The rules differ from country to country, and almost every country wants the data in its own format.
Our rule engine takes care of that. It applies each country's rules to your data and maps it to the format that country's scheme asks for, so you don't have to learn the differences.
Where EPR Insights takes over
You add your packaging data once; we apply it to your orders.
- Your packaging items go into EPR Insights once, from this template.
- We apply them to your Shopify orders, including where each order shipped.
- You get packaging totals per country and material for each reporting period.
- When your packaging changes, you update the item, not every report.

Packaging data questions
Do I need to weigh every order?
No. You weigh each packaging item once. Totals per period come from multiplying by what you shipped.
Can I use supplier specs instead of weighing?
Usually, yes. Supplier spec sheets are a common source. Guessed values are a risk if your figures are ever checked, so weigh a few units of anything without a spec.
My packaging data is already in a PIM. Do I have to start over?
No. Export it from your PIM to Excel and load it with our Excel packaging uploader.
Can I upload the template to EPR Insights?
Yes. It's the same template the app uses. Your SKUs must match the ones in your Shopify store exactly. In the app, you can also download the template with your SKUs already filled in.
Which materials do I need to separate?
Typically paper and cardboard, plastics, glass, metals, wood and composites. The exact categories differ per country and scheme.
